Will Sarosdy Award
Together with the Duffner Award, the Will Sarosdy Award is the highest honor bestowed upon a Chesterbrook Swimmer. It is not necessarily given on an annual basis, but rather those years when there is a swimmer who merits the award on the basis of his or her entire career at Chesterbrook. The Will Sarosdy Award is presented to a graduating senior who has demonstrated extraordinary dedication and success in the pool, who has been a leader on the team and in the Chesterbrook community, and who embodies the very best of Chesterbrook Swimming.
Will Sarosdy swam for Chesterbrook from the early 1990s until 2002. Over several years as a Tiger Shark, Will earned a reputation as a tireless worker and an utterly ferocious competitor. He also had a strong following among the younger swimmers, to whom he imparted not only his swimming skills, but his passion for the sport and his passion for Chesterbrook.
Will built on that passion to achieve much greatness beyond Chesterbrook: after leaving Northern Virginia for Texas, he swam for the University of Texas and qualified for the 2004 Olympic Trials in the 100 Backstroke. He held the team record for many years in 50 Back.
In these respects and others, Will was more than what we are at Chesterbrook; he was instead what we aspire to be: a tough competitor, a hard worker, a consummate teammate.
Will was physically taken from us at far too young an age, but his spirit is alive and thriving in each new generation of Tiger Sharks.
Endless is our Will.
