Coaches
Chesterbrook is proud to introduce its coaching staff for the 2025 Season. Bringing together decades of experience with competitive swimming and coaching, Chesterbrook's coaching staff is one of the league's best, most-seasoned, and most successful. In addition to their invaluable contributions to the team's success in the water, our coaches also embody and teach the spirit of Chesterbrook -- hard work, leadership, dedication, commitment to excellence, team work and sportsmanship. Leaders on the deck, as well as in their respective communities, Chesterbrook's coaches are role models on the deck, as well as in life.

Coach Riley joined Chesterbrook after spending five years as the head coach for the McLean Marlins and a summer as the Assistant Head Coach for the Riverbend Stingrays. In addition to summer league, Riley has six years of experience coaching at the club level with both 757Swim and York Swim Club. He is also in his second season as the Associate Head Coach at The Madeira School. During his stops at McLean, Riverbend and Madeira, Riley has had the pleasure to work alongside Coach Brenna. Together, they share a love for coaching and believe in pushing swimmers to achieve their best in an environment that is inclusive and supportive. At Chesterbrook, their goal is to ensure that all Tigersharks have a memorable and positive summer experience while gaining friendships and important life skills along the way.
During the day, Riley teaches 8th grade Civics and is co-sponsor of the student government program at Mark Twain Middle School. He holds a B.A. in Government from William & Mary, and a M.A. in Teaching from American University. When not teaching or coaching you can find Coach Riley exercising, playing Catan, or struggling through a crossword puzzle.

Katherine is thrilled to return as the Head Coach of our Little Jaws program. Coach Katherine started at Chesterbrook in 2015 as our Little Jaws Head Coach, revamping our developmental program. After just one season, she was hooked on everything Chesterbrook! In 2016, Katherine moved from the upper pool to our lower pool as Head Coach for Chesterbrook Swimming. Prior to her time with us, Katherine served as part of the senior coaching staff for neighboring NVSL swim team, Tuckahoe, since 2005. She was Tuckahoe’s Assistant Head Coach for the last six years of her time there. Katherine is a former coach for the York Swim Club and grew up swimming for Tuckahoe and Potomac Valley Swimming year-round. She was a 4-year scholar athlete and captain of the swim team at Langley High School and a 4-year scholar athlete and captain at Franklin & Marshall College (Division III). Katherine’s resume away from the pool is equally impressive – with a VA Licensure in Special Education, K-12, and a Master of Education, Special Education from George Mason University. During the school year, you can find Katherine at Arlington’s Discovery Elementary School where she works as a special education teacher, practicing yoga, or spending time with her daughter (Emma), husband (Colin), and rescue dog (Lucky)!

Lani is ecstatic to return to Chesterbrook for her fourth season as a Lower Pool Coach! Lani is especially excited to reunite with all of the returning swimmers, and introduce many new swimmers to her absolute favorite place! Other coaching experiences include four years working with our youngest swimmers in the upper pool, which will always have a special place in Lani’s heart. Outside of Chesterbrook, Lani coached for two years at York Swim School, under the direction of the beloved Bob York. At school, Lani is a rising senior in college, pursuing a teaching certification through a double major in education and history. She is also the current President of the Columbia University chapter of Sigma Delta Tau (and thus a certified sorority girl) and a student teacher at various schools around Manhattan. Working with kids has long been a passion of Lani’s, and she realized this calling right here at Chesterbrook. She cannot wait for another summer doing what she loves. Go Chesterbrook!

Nico is pumped to return to Chesterbrook, a place he’s called home since he first swam here at age 5. He started with Potomac Valley Swimming at age 6 and captained McLean High School’s swim team during both his junior and senior years. He coached Little Jaws for the last three years, where he fostered his love for coaching. This led him to volunteer for Adapted Aquatics, where he taught swimming to children with disabilities. Now a rising sophomore at Yale studying Economics and Statistics, Nico balances his academic life with competitive play on Yale’s club Water Polo team. He also spends his time tutoring students from 5th through 11th grade in a variety of subjects.
